How does defocusing amount affects laser cutting?

Redsail Technology is a professional laser machine manufacturer from China. We aim to provide long-lasting laser cutter, engraving, and, marker of premium quality at attractive price for our customers.

The defocusing amount is an important parameter that affects the cutting quality during the laser cutting process. During the operation of CO2 laser cutting machine on different materials, there is auxiliary gas, which is used to blow off the molten residues, to minimize the errors during cutting. Resulting in flawless cutting of different materials.

The selection of defocusing amount has a great impact to the cutting quality:

  1. When the focus position is appropriate, the slit materials are melted. While the cutting edges are not, the slag could be blown away easily. Keeping the slit clean and without slag.

  2. If the focusing position is off track back shift, the energy is absorbed by the lower surface area of the material cutting. Resulting to weaken laser cutting energy, and the materials cannot ber completely melted and removed by the auxiliary gas. Thus, there will be incompleted melted material is attaching to the lower surface of the cutting plate.

  3. If the focus is position is shifted advanced, the average energy increased and absorbed by the lower surface of the cutting material. Leading to the melting of the cutting edges area and liquidity. At the same time, because of the auxiliary air pressure and cutting speed are remain unchanged, the melted materials adheres to the lower surface of the material in a spherical form, and forms of slags.

In conclusion, during the laser cutting process the focus position might not be fixed. Thus, it need to be adjusted appropriately, before proceeding on. If you have any inquiries, can also reach out to our customer service experts for assistance. We provide professional services, contact us now~
